Cost of Attendance

The following costs are for the 2018-2019 academic year (from mid-August to mid-May). Costs typically increase 3-10% per academic year. Estimated costs are for the full academic year and are subject to change at any time.

Scholarship Information

Undergraduate Students Scholarships

Boise State University offers many scholarships for outstanding first year and transfer students. The two most common are worth approximately $15,000 per year. All students are encouraged to complete the Scholarships Checklist to apply for additional Boise State scholarships. GEM Scholarship

The GEM Scholarship is a highly-competitive scholarship for qualified nonresidents worth $15,000 per academic year. To meet the priority date for nonresident scholarships, all admission materials for new and transfer students must be received by December 15, 2018. Students whose admissions materials arrive after December 15th will be considered if scholarship resources remain available.

(*) International Students are not required to show SAT/ACT scores for admission or scholarship consideration. In the absence of these scores, GEM scholarships are offered on the basis of excellent TOEFL/IELTS scores and academic records.

Treasure Scholarship

The Treasure Scholarship is a new scholarship available to international students valued at $7,000 per academic year.

New International Student Scholarship

The New International Student Scholarship is awarded to outstanding international students who demonstrate academic achievement and a commitment to succeeding at Boise State University. The scholarship waives the non-resident portion of Boise State University tuition – a savings of approximately $15,000 per year. Scholarship recipients are responsible for resident tuition and fees (approximately $4,000 per semester). The scholarship is renewable for up to 4 years.

The Khang and Friends Scholarship

The Khang and Friends Scholarship is a Boise State scholarship established by Alumnus Nguyen Trong Khang to support Vietnamese-citizen students attending Boise State University. Applicants must be Vietnamese citizens with a record of academic excellence. Scholarship Deadline: March 15, 2019

Graduate Students Scholarships

There are several scholarship opportunities for graduate students, depending on the program to which you are applying. For more information on graduate funding, please see the Funding Graduate School page on the Graduate College website

GEM Scholarship for Graduate Students

The Graduate Gem Scholarship waives the full-time nonresident portion of tuition for out-of-state and international graduate students. Qualified students who attended Boise State as an undergraduate are eligible for a Graduate GEM Scholarship, even if they received GEM support as an undergraduate student.

To be eligible for a Graduate Gem Scholarship award you must:

  • Have a permanent residence outside the State of Idaho (both international students and US citizens are eligible).
  • Have a cumulative GPA as an undergraduate of 3.30 or higher.
  • Be accepted into an eligible graduate program. You will not be considered for the Gem Scholarship if applying ONLY to a certificate program Please use this link for a full list of ineligible programs. These programs are subject to change.
  • Apply: Visit the Graduate Gem Scholarship application page. Graduate GEM scholarship recipients are selected from qualified applicants. If you are admitted into an eligible graduate program and selected for a Graduate Gem Scholarship award, the Graduate College will notify the Financial Aid Office, which makes the scholarship offer to you.

Dates:

  • Fall 2019 Priority Application Date is February 15, 2019. Gem Scholarship award notifications for Fall 2019 will be sent to your u.boisestate email address in March 2019.
  • Spring 2020 Priority Application Date is October 1, 2019.

Late applications are accepted if awards are still available.

Note: Students who receive a Graduate Assistantship with a tuition waiver will have their Graduate GEM Scholarship replaced by the assistantship because the latter covers all tuition and fees while the Graduate GEM Scholarship waives only out-of-state tuition. Ineligible Programs

Students in the Master of Athletic Leadership, Online MBA, Executive MBA, the off-campus Social Work graduate programs and the online graduate programs in Educational Technology, Nursing, and Organizational Performance and Workplace Learning are not eligible for the Graduate GEM Scholarship. Please use this link for a full list of ineligible programs.

Additional Information

If you are awarded the Graduate GEM Scholarship, you are still responsible for Resident fees; this represents a savings of approximately $9,000/year. Current information on tuition and fee costs at Boise State University can be found at the University Tuition & Fees page.
