Global Learning Opportunities (GLO) has always been concerned and proactive in insuring that students are well informed with regard to their health and safety while studying abroad. We follow the Forum on Education Abroad Standards for  Good Practices in Study Abroad.

Health and Safety Resources

  • Education Abroad Handbook -All study abroad students are given a study abroad handbook, which discusses health and safety issues in great detail and will answer many of your questions regarding health and safety.
  • The US Department of State has created a website specifically for students going overseas. It has a variety of information helpful to student travelers and study abroad student Students Abroad website
  • Center for Disease Control Information about health issues for travelers, immunizations, etc.
  • Smart Traveler Enrollment Program  (STEP) a free service provided by the US government to register your trip abroad. All students are required to register themselves if they are participating in semester or yearlong program.
  • US State Department’s Bureau of Consular Affairs The State Department’s web site regularly posts consular information sheets and travel updates. You can also find useful information on services for Americans abroad, voting while abroad, travel publications, passport information, judicial assistance overseas, and embassy and consulate addresses.
  • SAFETI Clearinghouse. The SAFETI (Safety Abroad First – Educational Travel Information) Clearinghouse Project develops and distributes health and safety resources related to study abroad programs.
